Favourite films--- People are always asking me this question, and when they ask, i dont seem to have an answer v readily, so i shall jot it down here. Perhaps it'll be easier to remember :)
1. Casablanca--- what's not to like: a good plot, good actors, GREAT MUSIC, and lines you could quote forever.
2. The 1/7th farmers--- it's dark storyline is v haunting
3. The Philadelphia story--- for katherine hepburn's superb acting, it's worth it. Lovely period setting too, but wait, it was in that period that it was filmed.
4. Schindler's list--- enuff said
5. Citizen Kane--- The very Very good twist at the end makes this william randolph hearst epic worth catching.
6. The incredibles--- "edna mode's performance alone is worth the price of the ticket" (Life newspaper).
7. My fair lady--- unforgettable acting, nice instrumental music, and v sweet plot. Lurve the mens' outfits.
8. Spiderman 2--- Good acting and nice ending
9. Ocean's 11--- i lurve these complex storyline and cute filming. Kudos to steven sodernburg for excellent directing.
10. Rope--- alfred hitchcock's simple but engaging tale of deception and murder makes so you emotionally involved, you find yourself routing for the... i think better not give the game away by saying too much.
11. The pianist--- another war movie well worth your money.
12. Brotherhood of the wolves--- v thrilling storyline
13. Life is beautiful--- another war movie. but this one's funny yet poignant take on things is refreshing from the common action-like approach.
14. Dirty pretty things--- a refreshing and hopeful look at the underside of life
15. He loves me, he loves me not--- a twisted comedy on a girl's obsession with a dr.
16. Hero--- i like the idea of colour-coding the theme and the intricate storyline
17. Kolya--- another v sweet tale, with a touching ending.
18. Hillary and Jackie--- the music is enough to make you weep.
19. Gone with the wind--- impressive epic
20. Sense and sensibility--- one of the better period dramas
21. Hotel Rwanda--- exhilitariting portrayal of courage and brutality
22. The murder of roger ackroyd--- quaint little mystery
23. Goodbye Lenin--- hilarious and touching take on communism and its fall
24. The negotiator--- Kevin spacey and samuel l jackson
25. Wimbledon--- have been a big fan of kirsten dunst since i watched her in Bring it on, and this film is a hoot. Paul Bettany with his older-jaded-but-funny person and sam neill are excellent too. Just wish they didnt show kids in the ending (dun really like them).
26. Love actually--- v sweet story line.
27. Batman and the mask of the phatasm--- this cartoon has much plot that all the batman movies combined
28. Batman and the return of the joker--- ditto
Honourable mentions:
1. The great escape
2. Love me if you dare--- A v sweet tale of love in the weirdest way
3. The dear hunter
4. The 39 steps
5. Snatch
6. Evita--- nice music and singing
7. Forest gump--- v v sweet tale with a touching ending.
8. The pirates of the carribean--- johnny depp is a hoot. A pity the lady character is kinda annoying sometimes
9. The nightmare before Christmas--- "kidnap mr sandyclaws"!
10.The English Patient
11. The deer hunter
12. Three Kings
13. No man's land
14. Down with love
15. To catch a thief--- nice setting, a pity the ending disappoints a bit
16. Sleepy hollow--- not bad, but a bit scary for me
17. Scooby doo on zombie island--- nice more grown-up twist to the normal scooby doo series but also a bit scary for me
18. The others--- nicole kidman is GOOD!
19. Beautiful people--- like the coincidence and the tying of the tales together
20. Mary Reilly
Other critically aclaimed films which are not bad, but i didnt like it THAT much:
1. O brother where art thou--- the country setting looks dirty
2. The man who wasnt there--- they had a p** in it which was gross
3. American beauty--- good but too depressing
4. Spirited away--- creepy creatures
5. Maria full of grace--- also good but depressing, and the character bianca was a HUGE annoyance
6. From hell--- johnny depp rocks but the setting looks very dirty, and it's weird that heather graham gets to be the pretty prostitute
7. About a boy-- hugh grant good, the kid in there BAD
8. Last night in marienbad--- scary
9. The discrete charm of the bourgeois--- also scary for me. Strangely, it's not meant to be a scary film
Favourite directors:
1. George Cukor--- The Philadelpia Story, Gone with the Wind, My Fair Lady. Par excellence!
2. Anthony Minghella--- The English Patient, The Talented Mr Ripley
3. Steven Sodenburg--- Ocean's 11
